Two kinds of lawn, two different problems

Stephens City is really two different sets of lawns. In the older core of town — a grid laid out back in the 1750s, one of the earliest settlements in the valley — the lots are smaller and the trees are large and old. Those lawns fight for light. Turf under heavy maple and oak shade thins out, moss moves in, and the grass that survives is often the wrong kind.
